Start print-on-demand on Etsy

With print-on-demand, a partner such as Printful or Printify prints and ships each order. You make the design, connect the partner and set an honest price. No stock, no equipment.

The checklist, step by step

  1. Pick one product and one niche

One product for one kind of buyer, for example a Christmas sweatshirt for teachers.

    • One product: mug, shirt, sweatshirt or tote
    • One niche you understand
    • Ten similar listings saved for reference

In Sidecrafts: Elias asks who would buy it and whether it is simple to produce.

  2. Make your own design

Design at the size your partner asks for.

    • Canvas size from the partner’s product page
    • Transparent background where needed
    • Drafts and prompts kept as proof of authorship

In Sidecrafts: Elias checks the file against the partner’s requirements.

  3. Connect a production partner

Connect Printful or Printify and tell Etsy about it.

    • Partner connected to your Etsy shop
    • Partner added in Shop Manager → Settings → Production partners

In Sidecrafts: Elias walks you through the Etsy settings.

  4. Order one sample

See the print quality and shoot your own photos.

    • One sample ordered to your address
    • Print and colours checked
    • Your own photos taken

In Sidecrafts: Elias reminds you to check the sample before listing.

  5. Do the margin maths

Sale price minus partner cost minus Etsy fees.

    • Partner cost including shipping
    • Etsy fees: 6.5% + 3% + $0.25 + $0.20 listing
    • What is left for you, before you set the price
    Example: a $22 mug
    Amount
    Sale price$22.00
Partner cost (mug, print, shipping)about $13.00
    Listing fee$0.20
    Transaction fee 6.5%$1.43
    Payment processing 3% + $0.25$0.91
    Left for youabout $6.46

Example figures. Your partner cost, shipping and fees may differ.

In Sidecrafts: Elias calculates what is left after partner cost and Etsy fees.

  6. Set processing time

Match Etsy’s processing time to your partner’s production time.

    • Partner production time checked
    • Same processing time set on Etsy

In Sidecrafts: Elias fills in the processing time for you.

  7. Write the listing

Tell Etsy who makes it, and tell buyers who it is for.

    • “Who made it?” = Another company or person
    • Title and tags in the buyer’s words
    • Mockups plus your sample photos
    • AI use disclosed, if you used AI

In Sidecrafts: Elias checks the production partner fields and the AI disclosure.

Sounds like a lot? It is. That’s why you won’t do it alone.

You don’t need to remember any of this. Elias walks you through every step, checklist by checklist, so you don’t miss a thing. You bring the ideas. He handles the rest.
